TRAINING WITH US

We operate training sessions at both Torrington and Northam swimming pools.

We have several training sessions that run throughout the week serving our Junior, Development, Squad and Masters groups.

Keen swimmers of all abilities should be able to find a session to suit them, if you'd like to join, request a trial.

TASC Squads

Junior - A great place for children who are ready to move on from lessons to gain confidence and stamina in the pool. Children in these classes might enjoy the club meet events. Parents should remain to supervise primary school age children.

Development - For confident swimmers who are enjoying their swimming and are looking to make a splash at competitions. Swimmers might enjoy travelling with the club to level 3 meets.

Squad - For our older competitive swimmers who are looking to qualify for counties, regionals and even beyond. These swimmers often enjoy travelling to all swim meets.

Masters (18+) - TASC boasts a very successful masters swimming squad, but what ever your fitness level or swim speed, this friendly squad will have a lane for you.

WHAT TO BRING

Whilst swimming is a simple sport, some equipment can make the experience more fun and faster to learn. New swimmers won't need everything, but as a swimmers experience grows so too the content of their kit bag.

TASC has a partnership with pro-swimwear which results in a discount for members and a donation for the club, so consider sourcing your kit from:

https://www.proswimwear.co.uk/swim-clubs/swim-clubs-t/torridgeside-swimming-club.html

Please name all kit with water proof marker.

Water Bottle - Staying hydrated is important for all of our swimmers, from trials to competitions. Normally water is sufficient for an hours swim, but you might want to consider squash or sports drinks for longer work outs

Swim suit - Whilst it is possible to spend eye watering amounts on swim wear it is not necessary! Girls should be happy in a one piece swim suit and most of our boys prefer streamline jammer style shorts.

Goggles - When swimming as many lengths as our swimmers do, goggles are essential. Our coaches can help make any adjustments needed to ensure leakages are kept to a minimum.

Hat - Swimming hats are not mandatory at training, but can help swimmers keep hair out of the way and to be warmer between sets. TASC swimmers are given a plain TASC hat when they join and named ones are available to order periodically through the year.

Fins - Fins or flippers aren't required straight away, but are a great way to enhance the swimming experience. They propel swimmers through the water, fast, which whilst being fun in itself, also allows swimmers to engage in drills to improve their strokes.

Kickboard - The classic kick board allows swimmers to focus solely on their kick whilst progressing down the lanes.

Mesh Bag - Keeping a swimmers kit together is challenge for both parent and swimmer, a named mesh bag can at least help in this endeavour.

Pull Buoy - These small floats rest between a swimmers legs, this allows more experienced swimmers to isolate their arms whilst swimming, improving balance and technique.

Paddles - There are a variety of paddles on the market that all promise to improve swimmers stroke in a variety of ways. TASC don't advocate for any particular type, but the enhanced mechanical feedback and resistance they provide to experienced swimmers make them a great addition to the kit bag.

Snorkel - These aren't often utilised by the club and are not required by the club

Sports Watch - Some of our older swimmers like to use these, after all, if its not on Strava, did it happen? But these are definitely not necessary.

MEMBERSHIP & FEES

We endeavour to keep our fees to a minimum and membership costs go wholly to pay for pool hire as all our volunteers both coaches and non coaching members of committee all give up every minute of their time spent in club for free, creating no cost to club at any time.

JOINING FEE £40

This one-off payment that will only apply once in any swimmers lifetime regardless of how many times they leave and return to club.

This includes one plain hat when initially joining and three free trial swims, these trial swims will not be available on the second and subsequent times of joining.

This fee will be charged by invoice and will appear in swim manager.

ANNUAL FEE £50 / £77.50

The annual fee combines swim England's fees, both to the club and to the swimmer and varies based on if a swimmer attends inter-club competitions. These fees are due every January and are paid via a swim manger invoice.

TASC club membership fee £30

Swim England charges clubs every year for insurance and administration purposes, this fee is shared equally across all club members

-and-

Club Train £20

Swim England annual fees cover insurance for swimmers at training sessions

-or-

Club Compete £47.50

Swim England's fees are higher to cover swimmers who attend interclub competitions

MONTHLY FEES

These fees primarily cover pool rental and can be paid by direct debit. They are calculated over an annual basis so there are no refunds for missed sessions or bank holidays, although Monday swimmers may be able to find alternative sessions on those weeks.

For 2026 these are as follows:

1 Swim per week          = £35.00 per month

2 Swims per week        = £50.00 per month

3 Swims per  week       = £65.00 per month

4 Swims per week        = £80.00 per month
